Hi. I’m Sally Keehn from Allentown, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. I was asked to be here in Lithuania -- my voice buried underneath your soil with flower seeds planted over it, because I’m a writer of books for young people.

I have always loved to read books. Reading books has taken me into all sorts of interesting places and involved me in all kinds of adventures. Books have helped me to see the world from different points of view. Because books have always been so magical to me, I never thought that I’d be talented enough to actually write one. However, after moving from my home state of Maryland to Pennsylvania, I decided, along with my husband David, to write a travel book on the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside, because we both loved exploring. In exploring the countryside, I came upon stories than began to stalk me -- like a relentless wolf stalks its prey. The stories stalked me for years and finally, through hard work and over time, I was able to give voice to them.

I have now written not only a travel book, but also four published novels for young people, and I am working on a fifth. And it all started with the exploration of what I would now call my home state of Pennsylvania. It’s amazing the stories you’ll come upon when you go exploring. It’s amazing how those stories will stalk you. It’s amazing, when you finally give voice to those stories, what fascinating discoveries you’ll make about yourself and about the world.

I encourage everyone to read, and to write.
