My name is Karel Mikolas.  I am a sculptor, and I live in Newside, a little village in the eastern corner Pennsylvania. I was born in Central Europe, a town called Prague, where my family resided for the last couple hundred years.  They were working as craftsman, and only I from the whole clan of Mikolas have higher education and classical upbringing as a monumental sculptor.

But really I wanted to say that the profession is strictly a vehicle for self discovery, so all the things what I make is basically crutches to figure out where my leg grows from or whatever I do on the universe.  You know, the Shakespearean question to be or not to be, and all that heavy stuff.

But I have a good word of encouragement for everybody who will follow the path after I am gone: Never give up, keep on working, keep on trucking and keep on rehearsing. You will be good.   Everything will be good, and maybe one day there will be peace on earth.  Thank you.

Karel Mikolas.  Sculptor.  Born:  Prague, Czech Republic.  Lives: Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  Mr. Mikolas attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.  He worked with mentor Louis Kahn in Philadelphia.  Karel Mikolas works in glass, wood, steel, and stone are exhibited nationally, most recently at Zoellner Gallery, Lehigh University.
