My name is Thomas Nozkowski. I paint small, abstract paintings. I was born, raised, and currently live in the Hudson Valley of New York State in the United States. I have been painting this way for twenty-five years, and I am interested in painting abstract works that come in some sense from the real world. That is to say, I believe that abstract images can be tied in very specific and exact ways to real experience by things in the real world.

I believe not in limiting my painting to following real objects alone, but to states of mind, to moments in time, to conditions. I think a painting can be made about anything. It can be made of poems, of songs, of news items. Any experience, I think, can be fit somehow in the visual continuum.

Thomas Nozkowski.  Painter.  Hudson Valley, New York, U.S.A.  Mr. Nozkowski has received the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Painting, a New York State Foundation of the Arts Fellowship, & NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships.  His works are in permanent collections, including Centre National des Artes Plastiques, Paris; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Phillips Collection & Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; and Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and MOMA, New York.
