Amina Boutotla – Morocco

Berber Weaver, President of Cooperative Nour

My name is Amina Boutotla. I am from a cooperative in the north, Hanifra in the Middle Atlas region. I am a weaver.

The women who weave the rugs, first take colors from Nature—from plants and other organic materials. We choose the colors we love.

There are many signs and symbols woven into the rugs, which explain some of the traditions of women, like the henna tattoos on our faces and hands. Some of the ways of using the rugs are that you can put them on the floor to make the house beautiful or hang them on the wall. Mothers give these rugs as a present to our daughters when they are married.

I ask God for you to have a safe journey to the USA and to have good days while you are here. And that the present (red rug) you will give to your daughter, she will love it.
