I think that I was interested in speaking here to you today because of my other grandfather who came from Lithuania and so did my mothers family, so I feel some connection to the land of Lithuania although I have never been there. I believe that voices that we listen to in our writing can come from very deep places, can come from the past, from our ancestors and even from the books they were reading and the prayers they were saying, and that as a poet, I am much more of a listener than I am a writer. I really think that poetry comes from listening. And I thank you for listening to me.
